Hyperlapse from Instagram – A New Perspective on this App

There have been a lot of articles published about Instagram’s new baby Hyperlapse.  You can read two of the better ones here…..Hyperlapse

However, I think these articles are missing a major facet of this new tool!

Stabilization for Hyperlapse from Instagram from Instagram on Vimeo.

Now that you have a nice overview of the time-lapse piece of Hyperlapse, which don’t get me wrong is super cool, let me tell you how I think agents can use this powerful application. If used sparingly, time-lapse can add another element into your marketing videos, but that is the key word….sparingly. No app will revolutionize anything if you only use it once in awhile or just use it for filler on your neighborhood tour.

Look at the picture below, you see the little 1x button? This option will open up the world of quality video to the masses.

Hyperlapse

You see, I don’t think the power behind this application is in its ability to speed time up, I feel the power is in its ability to smooth things out. Videos that are shaky are instantly recognizable as amateurish. We see them all the time in real estate.  Kudos to the agent for trying, but just because they are trying doesn’t mean it will look good. Now that agent will have a powerful ally on their side….Hyperlapse.

Digital video stabilization has been available on high end video editing programs on your laptop or desktop for quite some time now. However, the videos took forever to stabilize, and a lot of agents weren’t using them.

Now there is an app that makes your videos look smooth as butter, no matter how shaky your hands are and does it in SECONDS!  It truly is unbelievable! You don’t have to have a sped up version of your video, you can have it play in real time! The uses for this app are endless since it can be used all the time, not just once in awhile.  One note, this is not an editing program. If you want multiple videos editing together you will still have to use iMovieVideolicious or something similar.

Check out my quick test of the image stabilization in my driveway. Don’t mind my family mobile…. a minivan is a necessity with 3 kids, 3 and under…LOL. I was just walking normally with no special attachments to my camera or edits done to the video.

Tell me what you think below about this new tool. Do you see its main use for time-lapse or normal video?
